Chapter Thirteen

Emma

We got back to my apartment at three o’clock in the morning. Chloe was fast asleep in her room, and I pressed my finger against my lips as we entered.

“We have to be quiet. I don’t want Chloe waking up and getting all pissy.” I giggled as Cody nodded solemnly. “Come on, this way.” I headed toward the living room and stared at the couch. “I’ll get you a sheet and some pillows.” I looked into his eyes and realized he was staring at me. “What is it?” I said quickly, touching my face and my hair. “Do I have something on me?”

“No.” He shook his head. “I was just thinking how cute you are.”

“Oh shush.” I hit him in the shoulder, and he grabbed me around the waist and pulled me into him. I swallowed hard as I looked up at him. My heart was beating erratically, and I was pretty sure that he could hear it. “Do you want one pillow or two?” I whispered.

“I don’t know,” he said, his voice a low growl as he held me against him. “Can I see your room?”

“Do you want to see my room?”

“Do we have to whisper in your room?”

“No.” I laughed slightly. “But we do have to talk quietly. The walls are thin.” I wrinkled my nose. “Is that okay? Are you not tired?”

“No.” He shook his head. “This might sound crazy, but I’ve waited for this moment for a really long time.”

“Oh?” I cocked my head to the side and gazed at him, wondering exactly what he was saying. “What do you mean?”

“I always imagined us spending the whole night talking when we first met each other.” He shrugged. “Obviously, I expected you to be quite a bit older, but...” He stared into my eyes. “I’ve pictured this moment for years. I’m not quite ready for it to end yet.”

“But it’s not technically our first meeting.” I was breathing heavily now. I could feel his body against me and it felt like something was growing hard in his pants.

“Yes, but it’s our first meeting knowing exactly who we are. And it’s our first night together.”

“True.” I smiled at him. “I’ve thought about spending the night talking with you as well. Come on, let’s go to my room.” I grabbed his hand and led him to my bedroom and even though my heart was racing, it didn’t just feel sensual. It felt magical. It felt like a moment I’d been waiting to happen for a really long time.

"So this way to my bedroom." I smiled at Cody as we walked toward my room. My heart was racing erratically and I knew I needed to take a couple of deep breaths. This moment felt picture perfect. And even though I knew he still had worries about me, I still felt like we were getting closer. I pushed open the door to my bedroom and turned on the light. Fairy lights sparkled throughout the room.

"Wow," he said with a smile. "I feel like I've gone to look at a constellation somewhere.
